North & NW Austin

As the capital of Texas, the city of Austin has a lot to offer. From live music and outdoor festivals to great food and impressive schools, the city appeals to a wide range of families and individuals. From the University of Texas to the rich history, the eclectic selection of neighborhoods, and the array of outdoor activities available, there are lots of good reasons to relocate to Austin.

Historic Austin

One of the most historic entertainment districts in Austin is Sixth Street. The 9-block area known as the Sixth Street Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic places since 1975. These buildings, built in the 1880s, are home to a number of bars, clubs, and music venues.

On weekend evenings, many of the crossroads in this area are blocked off, allowing people to easily walk from one venue to the next. Sixth Street is also the site of several major events, including music and film festivals, bike rallies, and the Pecan Street Festival.

Another popular historic site is the Bob Bullock Museum. This is the venue of a variety of activities that are open to the public, such as bring your own quilt day and create your own quilt day, which preserve the art and heritage of quilting. It is also the site of outdoor concerts and of course, the museum itself, which is dedicated to the history of Texas.

Outdoor Recreation

In addition to Austin golf courses and Austin tennis clubs, residents of the city can get plenty of unstructured outdoor exercise. Austin is home to miles of scenic jogging trails that pass alongside streams, rivers, and tree-lined bluffs. Of the most popular running trails is located at Town Lake. Just short of 5 miles, this trail is popular with joggers and hikers of varying experience levels.

The crown jewel of Austin parks & trails is Zilker Park, which is commonly referred to as “Austin’s most loved park.” This park is the site of several festive events, including live music during the summer, the Zilker Tree lighting ceremony, the Zilker Summer Musical, and Shakespeare in the Park. Park visitors can also go out on the water in a paddleboat or take a ride on the Zilker Zephyr, a miniature train. Zilker Park is filled with fun for the whole family!

Shop and Dine

While there is a wide range of Austin shopping and restaurants available to residents, some establishments stand out above all others. One outstanding restaurant is Salt Lick BBQ. Their food is available for weddings and other catered events as well as in house dining and delivery. The recipes used here have been passed down in the family since their wagon train days in the 1800s, giving diners a taste of history and a dose of Texas Hill Country hospitality all in one.

The Barton Creek Square is a Simon-owned, indoor mall that has over 180 individual stores, making it a one-stop shop for anything you might need. Upscale shops include Sephora, Swarovski Crystal, Michael Kors, and Soma Intimates. Visitors can finish off their afternoon of shopping with a movie at the AMC IMAX Theater or dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen.
